Last Updated: Aug 5, 2025 Rocket VPN is one of the newer VPNs around. It started as a free program but is now trying to make waves in the paid market as well. While the company is ambitious and seems to be aiming for simplicity and user-friendliness, they’ve still got some way to go. This Irish company has been marketing their VPN since 2017. While the location isn’t ideal for a VPN vendor, most similar companies (in the U.K. and the U.S.) make up for it by being upfront about their privacy policies. While Rocket VPN claims privacy for its users, it offers few details and they are simply not strong enough in this area. Rocket VPN has some strengths. The mobile app is very fast, and it occupies only a small amount of space on your phone or tablet. Navigation is easy, and going from server to server is fast. As with many other details, Rocket VPN doesn’t state what kind of encryption it offers, but the protocols are clearly set out as being PPTP, L2TP, and OpenVPN. Although Rocket VPN is a decent free VPN, the paid versions are not really worth the extra cost right now. The tiers are confusing, and the company does not adequately explain what sets each price tier apart. However, a nice inclusion is the mobile app feature that lets you choose which apps run through encryption. Overall, Rocket VPN has some way to go. I noticed the company’s strong commitment to internet privacy, and they offer a commendable free version. However, in order for this VPN to be considered a worthwhile purchase, it requires additional features and improved transparency.
